Thailand’s proposal to be the ASEAN Reference Laboratory for Food Contact Materials
Introduction
Food Contact Materials (FCM) became a key factor in food safety control. It is evident that constituents from food packaging could migrate into food. For instance, the migration of plasticizers from PVC gasket of lids for glass jars into the oily food (such as chilly paste) inside the jar. This problem has impacted on the export value of these commodities for more than 8,000 million baht. A critical issue at the moment is the Bisphenol-A (BPA), the starting material for polycarbonate and epoxy resin, that Canada has banned from the production of baby bottles.
